A sunset elopement gives you the softest, warmest light of the day and a sky that seems to celebrate with you. In North Wales, the west-facing coast and the mountain lakes both glow as the sun goes down.
I'm Leon, an accredited celebrant and photographer based in Llandudno. Here is how I would plan a golden hour elopement, and where it can lead afterwards.
Why Golden Hour Works
In the hour before sunset, the light is low and gentle, so faces look natural and the landscape turns gold. It also tends to be quieter, with fewer walkers around.
Coast or Mountains
On the coast, Porthdinllaen and Aberdaron on the Llŷn, or Rhoscolyn on Anglesey, face open sea. In the mountains, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Ogwen catch the evening colour on the water. Mountain and coastal elopements helps you choose.
Timing Your Day
Sunset moves a long way through the year, so we plan backwards from it. The Ultimate is a full day, morning to evening, so you could begin by a lake and finish your vows as the sun drops into the sea.
Plan for Dusk
Bring a warm layer and a torch for the walk back. Once the sun has gone, there is often a lovely blue glow for a few final portraits.
Video, Audio and Polaroids
Your ceremony is recorded with video and audio, and Polaroids are handed to you on the day. The Signature starts at £3,250 and the Ultimate at £4,950 on the live packages page.
More Sunsets to Come
The Ultimate includes a free sunset celebration with Twilight Ceremonies that never expires, and the Signature includes 15% off, so you can return to the same light.
Anywhere With a Sky
Your closest few, kids and dogs are welcome, and we keep it as small as possible. You can also choose anywhere: home, your garden, elsewhere in the UK or abroad.
Say your vows as the day softens, and let the light do the rest. See your elopement day timeline, then book a call to plan your golden hour.
