ELOPE NOW, PARTY LATER: PLANNING A CELEBRATION AFTER YOUR ELOPEMENT

Elope now, party later is one of the happiest compromises I know. You get the quiet, personal day you wanted, and the people you love still get their chance to celebrate with you.

I'm Leon, an elopement celebrant and photographer based in Llandudno. My job ends when the elopement day does, but couples often ask me how to handle the party afterwards. Here is what I tell them.

Why Split the Two

Your elopement is about the two of you: your vows, your landscape, your pace. A party is about everyone else. Keeping them apart means neither has to compromise. You are not hosting during your ceremony, and nobody at the party feels they missed something they were expected to attend.

Timing the Party

Some couples hold a get-together the following weekend, while the glow is still fresh. Others wait a few months so friends can travel, or plan it for the first summer after. There is no right answer. Just tell people early, so the party feels like an invitation, not an afterthought. If you are nervous about the conversation itself, how to tell your family you've eloped walks you through it.

Keep It Relaxed

An after-party does not need a top table or speeches unless you want them. A garden barbecue, a long lunch or drinks with your closest friends all work. Wear your elopement outfit again if you like, because it deserves a second outing.

Share the Day You Had

Your photographs arrive within four weeks, so they are often ready in time. A slideshow, a few framed prints or your Love Story Album on a table lets everyone see the mountains, the coast and the vows they were not there for. Some couples read a line or two from their ceremony script, which feels lovely when the room goes quiet.

Elope Anywhere, Celebrate Anywhere

Your elopement can happen anywhere you choose, from Eryri's lakes to the Anglesey coast or a place far beyond Wales. The party can be wherever your people are.

Two days, two moods, and both entirely yours. See what is included on the elopement packages page, or read your elopement day timeline to picture the first of them.
